Theta Chi
Founded in 1856, Theta Chi is one of the oldest men’s college fraternities in North America. Founded on the principle of friendship through the mutual assistance of every member, Theta Chi aims to provide its members with an enjoyable and fulfilling collegiate experience that also prepares them for rewarding, successful lives after graduation.

Eta Phi Chapter
Theta Chi pioneered the Greek community at Oakland University. Our founding members came together as a group called Delta Alpha Sigma to improve campus social activities and build an involved student community. We are extremely lucky to offer housing in the Historic District of Pontiac. Our house was built in 1914 by Oliver J. Beaudette, founder of Beaudette Body (later acquired by Fisher Body). Our three-story house offers 16 bedrooms with a max capacity of 23 brothers. We purchased the house in 1986 and remain the only Greek organization at OU to own a house.
Our Alpha Class was chartered in 1981 with 41 founding members and we officially became the Eta Phi Chapter of Theta Chi. Since then, we have initiated over 600 collegiate men. Our collegians are leaders on campus, in the classroom, and on the field. As men of Theta Chi, we strive to become Resolute Men.
The Resolute Man is Eta Phi Chapter's blueprint for the correct college experience. It defines what membership in Theta Chi Fraternity truly means. It strives to guide our collegiate brothers to get the most out of their education at Oakland University and to best prepare Eta Phi Chapter Alum for life after graduation.
Our Sacred Purpose Committing to One Another
The Mission of Sacred Purpose is simple; to protect our brothers, and the broader campus community, by providing health and safety education. Sacred Purpose is centered on five different topics that affect today’s collegiate men:
Alcohol and Other Drugs
Fire and Life Safety
Hazing Prevention
Sexual Misconduct Prevention
Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Awareness
Eta Phi Chapter educates all our members about the importance of recognizing one who may be struggling—from properly starting a conversation to connecting them with the resources available on their campuses and in their communities. This effort could save a life.
By living out our Sacred Purpose, we are committing to one another. Whether it is assistance or protection, we will make sure that all our members are free to live out the best lives that they can.
Hazing Prevention
Theta Chi Fraternity stands against all forms of hazing at all times and is a Gold Sponsor of HazingPrevention.org. This organization is dedicated to empowering people to prevent hazing, by providing education and resources, and building partnerships with others.
